We are Degar or Montagnards indigenous peoples of southeast- Asia, and we are the first nations are founders and living on this land before other nations.

Montagnards was named by French colonized in the 17th century, when French colony has come over the central highland and south-east Asia regions, le Montagnard is French language it is meaning mountain people or mountain man, because we are living in the deepest forest and on the high mountains during the of French colonized Indochina of south-east Asia.

Where we are living?

We are living in three regions countries borders of south-east Asia, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, because World War II, south-east and Vietnam war leftover us behinds and our country was laying over other hands, our country was splitting and divided us three countries borders until today.

Y Krec Bya Born in 1966 (58 years)

Location: Central highland Vietnam

Arrested on April 8,2023

The United States and the United Nations are deeply concerned by ongoing convictions of Montagnards indigenous people’s ethnic of Rade and religious freedom advocates, including five convictions since January 2024.

We are particularly troubled by the recent 13-year sentence of Y Krec Bya, who has been a peaceful voice for freedom of religion or belief in Vietnam.

We call upon Vietnam to respect the rights of individuals to exercise freedoms of expression, association, and religion or belief. We reiterate our call on Vietnam to release all those unjustly detained.

Pastor: Y Wo Nie born in 1970

Location: Central highland Vietnam

Second terms arrested

On September 13, 2021, Pastor Y Wo Nie was arrested for taking online courses about several topics including human rights, Vietnam’s civil law, and religious freedom. Authorities alleged that the courses Pastor Nie was taking were held by “reactionary forces”.

On May 20, 2022, a court in Cu Kuin district, Dak Lak province sentenced Pastor Nie to four years in prison for “abusing the right to freedom and democracy” under Article.331 of Vietnam’s penal code. A second charge accusing him of collecting false information about human rights and sending these reports to “reactionary forces overseas”, was not upheld.

A human rights supporter who listened to the trial as it was broadcast over a local loudspeaker commented, “learning about human rights is very good”. And, “If we lived in a civilized world, then the court would declare his innocence, set him free right at the trial, and the investigation agency would apologise to him”.

In 2004 Y Wo Nie was arrested for leading a demonstration demanding more religious freedom and the release of property confiscated by the Vietnamese government. He was sentenced to nine years in prison but was released in December 2011.

Y Blang Nay Born in 1976

Location: Central highland Vietnam

Second term arrested

Nay Y Blang was imprisoned for his religious belief and activity. 

On May 18, 2023, Blang Nay was arrested by Vietnamese authorities for his unrecognized and unregistered Central Highlands Evangelical Church of Christ and holding in-home religious meetings for fellow members. 

Vietnamese government sentenced him to 4 years and 6 months prison term.

On January 26, 2024, the People’s Court of Phu Yen province sentenced Blang to four years and six months in prison. 

Blang was previously imprisoned for his peaceful religious activity. In 2005, Blang was sentenced to five years and six months in prison for “undermining the unity policy.” Upon his release from prison in 2010, authorities sent Blang to an “educational facility” for 24 months for “abusing the rights to democratic freedom and freedom of belief to entice and incite others to violate the law, interests of the State, legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals
